Our God has a sense of humor. Last week was the first time in twenty years that I didn’t have a message prepared to speak. I had some thoughts brewing and a few verses in mind, but no notes prepared. I shared how we need to pursue wisdom. I want to see God do a great work in our city and I am ready for Him to move. I was asking God for wisdom for what to do so that He can bring forth the harvest and transform lives in our city.
God answered me when I read and studied Isaiah chapter 55. Let’s take a look at this passage and see what the Lord wants to reveal to us today!
I. The Invitation
Isaiah 55:1-5: “Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink—even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk—it’s all free! Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food. “Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David. See how I used him to display my power among the peoples. I made him a leader among the nations. You also will command nations you do not know, and peoples unknown to you will come running to obey, because I, the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, have made you glorious.”
Jesus invites everyone to receive salvation.
Salvation is free
You can’t pay for it
You can’t earn it
It is a gift received by faith (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Romans 10:7: So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.
II. The Distinction
Isaiah 55:6-9: Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously. “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
We are to seek the Lord and to call on Him. There is a limited time to do so. God wants the wicked to turn to Him. He forgives freely and generously. God’s thoughts are nothing like our thoughts and His ways are higher than our ways. We operate in the natural realm which has a limited capacity. He operates in the heavenly realm which has a limitless capacity.
God wants us to operate in the Heavenly realm. He tells to pray things to happen on earth as it is in heaven. His message was the Kingdom of Heaven is here.
2 Corinthians 2:1-16: When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan. For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified. I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling. And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God. Yet when I am among mature believers, I do speak with words of wisdom, but not the kind of wisdom that belongs to this world or to the rulers of this world, who are soon forgotten. No, the wisdom we speak of is the mystery of God—his plan that was previously hidden, even though he made it for our ultimate glory before the world began. 8 But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord. That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. For, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.
The Spirit searches out everything and shows us the deep secrets of God. No one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. We have received God’s Spirit so that we can know the things that God has freely given us! We have the mind of Christ - therefore we can know His thoughts!
III. The Guarantee
Isaiah 55:10-13: “The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands! Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow. Where nettles grew, myrtles will sprout up. These events will bring great honor to the Lord’s name; they will be an everlasting sign of his power and love.”
Fruitfulness is the guaranteed by-product of God’s Word, whether for the salvation of a lost soul or the provision of a disciple’s need. God’s Word cannot be barren or fruitless. His own life-power is within it!

Let’s conclude the service by asking the Holy Spirit to reveal the Father’s heart to us today. Let ask Him to reveal His thoughts and affections towards us today. And lets pray for His Kingdom seeds to grow in our lives and in our city!
